I Love California!
This post is a long one, as there was so much to do and see in San Diego, California. To begin our visit we stayed at the Dolphin Motel, family owned and operated for over 36 years. It was vintage, unique, and simple – just the way I like it. During my cross-country road trip I always enjoyed discovering these gems. I find it adds to the experience of visiting a place and I genuinly like supporting small businesses. From our upstairs balcony we had great views of the marina. (Yes, the skies are grey – but it won’t stay that way for long – this is SoCal!)
Our first stop was a downtown stroll through the historic Gaslamp Quarter. There were so many beautiful Victorian-esque buildings to gawk at.
Next we spent hours roaming Balboa Park. The park has a plethora of museums, walking paths, gardens, restaurants, and even the San Diego Zoo. I took a million pictures here – at every turn there was something inspiring and beautiful.
Finally, we finished our day at Seaport Village, a waterfront village with galleries, restaurants, and shops. While it was a just a tad bit too touristy for me, we did end up stumbling upon a great little bookstore where we played a round of checkers (I won!) and sipped coffee as the sun set on our glorious day in glorious San Diego. Did I mention, I love California?!
