HOLA
Now this is digging into the travel-logs: Five years ago in 2008 I decided to congratulate myself on graduating college by facing a fear and taking my first solo trip to Montezuma, Costa Rica to attend La Escuela Del Sol for Spanish and Yoga.
I was reminded of Montezuma while visiting Terr-de-Haut, Guadeloupe last ship contract, as they both have that rugged, backpacker, eco-tourist feel. They are not your 5-star luxury resort destinations – which means it’s my kind of place!
For a week I hiked to waterfalls and swam in their crisp pools, I zip-lined through the rainforest, I practiced yoga nightly in an open, wooded pavilion, listening to the crashing waves of the ocean and the monkeys in the trees. I read while swinging in a hammock, I ate the freshest fruit and fruit juices imaginable for breakfast each morning, I snorkeled in clear blue waters, I practiced my Spanish on the local Ticos, I journaled and with each passing day I felt myself growing more as a woman in the world.
I’ve never forgotten this crepe-filled piece of heaven from Cafe Organico.

Five years later and I now feel like a seasoned traveler. But back then, making this solo trip was an unbelievable big step for me. I always remember it fondly, and Montezuma will always hold a special place in my heart because of this.
As they say in Costa Rica, Pura Vida! Live your life purely, simply, lovingly, and happily. If you find it hard to do so from where you’re at, why don’t you give Montezuma and La Escuela Del Sol a try sometime?
