Boston and Harvard Square

By Wendy
Thursday, July 12th, 2012

Today’s photos are the final installment from our spontaneous trip from NYC to the East coast. Check out other photos from the same trip to Provincetown, Cape Cod here, and the lovely beaches of Cape Cod here.

Our first stop when we reached Boston was – what else?! – FOOD! We roamed around the city until we found exactly what we were looking for: we knew we wanted seafood, (it is, after all, Boston), and we knew we wanted a relaxed, waterfront, non-hoity-toity atmosphere where we could try some local beers.

When we spotted The Barking Crab, we knew we found our spot.

Photos from the Boston waterfront near the restaurant.

After our meals we walked to the subway and headed to Harvard Square. I have to say, after coming from NYC, Harvard Square was an extreme culture shock. It’s a small, clean, simple place and with its historical buildings and homes, a total blast from the past. The way I described it to others is the entire area, subway and all, felt like I was roaming around one big college campus. (I suppose basically, I was!) Everything was so easy to maneuver and very well kept. While in NYC I often feel like I don’t fit in, here I felt extremely comfortable which came as a surprise to me as I always imagined this area to be as I stated above – hoity-toity! Instead the people were very friendly and the vibe of the area was extremely relaxed.

The Victorian homes, the gardens, the historic buildings, the cute walkable “square” with tons of restaurants, coffee shops, bookstores, boutiques…oh I was in love! And honestly, I really don’t think my pictures do the area justice. You’ve just got to see if for yourself. It was a dreamlike place.
