I had the opportunity to visit many places during my 2011 cross-country road trip but Arches National Park in Moab, Utah, wasn’t one of them. So I was so excited to pull open my road map while in Boulder and see that the route to Las Vegas (which was my next destination) went right past Moab. It was finally meant to be!
When I arrived in Moab it was already late into the evening and the sky had suddenly opened up and began pouring down rain. I thought for a moment my plans to visit the park would be crushed, but luckily the rain ceased and the passing storm actually created the perfect environment for beautiful pictures – even creating a rainbow!
My visit was relatively quick – I was racing sunset – but I still had just enough time to stop at each and every pull off point to take in the view and snap a photo and I even had time to take a short hike in Devil’s Garden, which is at the very far end of the park, before the sun set entirely, leaving the gorgeous red rocks in darkness.
