Dubrovnik, Croatia. During our first visit friends and I walked along the shimmering marble streets of old town to reach the famous cable car. We took a ride to the top for an amazing view, espresso, and beer. Afterward we grabbed a huge pizza pie at the equally popular Mea Cupla.
During another visit I went on a tour which entailed visiting two century old family owned wineries where we sampled amazing wines, cheese, bread, olives, and dried figs. We also sat down to a meal of soup, salad, and pasta while being serenaded by traditional Croatian music, followed by a short walking tour of the old town. While in the old town the tour guide suggested an amazing sandwich of oil-cured cheese and prosciutto between two thick homemade slices of bread. I purchased it at the unassuming Buffet Skola. It was SO good and I’m looking forward to attempting to create it here at home.
We had two Croatian ports-of-calls during my four months on board – Dubrovnik and Zadar. Both were beyond my expectations. Croatia is unbelievably beautiful, clean, charming, and friendly. I would go back in a heartbeat!
